Q: When should I take my child to the dentist for the first time?

A: We recommend that you bring your child for a first visit to the dentist when the first tooth appears, or no later than your child's first birthday.

Q: My child is teething. How can I help relieve some of the pain?

A: Many children find relief from something cool or firm to chew on, like a teething ring. Children's Tylenol, Children's Motrin or rubbing the gums with a clean finger can help provide relief. Always consult your doctor before administering any medication.

Q: Until what age can you see my child?

A: There is no age limit at North Coast Dental Group. Because we are a pediatric practice and general dentistry practice, our children's dentists can see patients from the first tooth into adolescence, and our great general dentists can see them through adulthood. We will talk with you about the right time for your child to move from a pediatric dentist to our general dentistry practice.

Q: Do you see children with special needs?

A: Yes. Our pediatric dentists, Dr. Brenner and Dr. Levy, have comprehensive education in behavior management and sedation techniques, in addition to advanced training in care for children with special needs. Our office is designed to be accessible for all patients.

All children need support and a gentle, caring manner to feel comfortable during dental treatment. In some cases, mild sedation may benefit your child. If a child needs extensive treatment, our dentists can provide care at a local hospital. Dr. Brenner and Dr. Levy will work with you to determine the specific approach to meeting your child's dental health needs.

Q: Do you do orthodontics?

A: Yes, North Coast Dental Group is a full-service dental care provider for adults and children. We offer comprehensive orthodontic services for children and the Invisalign® system for teenagers and adults.

Q: What is gum disease?

A: Gum disease - also known as periodontal disease - is a chronic bacterial infection that affects the gums and bone supporting the teeth. It can begin as gingivitis- an irritation of the gums around one or many teeth - and if it's left untreated, it can lead to tooth loss.  Gum disease has been linked to heart disease, low birth weight babies, strokes and many other health conditions. It's very important to see your dentist every six months for an examination and hygiene visit, so that we may detect the early signs of gum disease and take steps to help you maintain your dental and overall health.

Q: What is a dental crown?

A: A dental crown, also known as a tooth cap, is a type of dental restoration used to reestablish a tooth's shape and strength. Made out of porcelain, a dental crown serves as the new outer surface for a tooth that has decayed or sustained damage. Dental crowns can also be used to improve the cosmetic appearance of one or more teeth.

Q: How can veneers improve my smile?

A: Veneers can solve a variety of smile imperfections, covering worn, dull or stained teeth and teeth that have chips, cracks, gaps or an uneven appearance. Dental veneers are custom-designed porcelain or composite resin shells that are bonded directly to your teeth. When your overall dental health indicates that veneers are a good solution, they can be a great way to brighten, whiten and reshape your smile.

Q: I have missing teeth. What can I do?

A: Missing teeth should be replaced to restore your chewing ability, to keep your remaining teeth from shifting, or to prevent possible bone loss. Options for missing teeth include partial dentures, bridgework, dental implants and implant-based dentures. We will work with you to assess your overall dental health and offer treatment options that will help you regain normal function and reduce the likelihood of future complications.

Q: Do you accept insurance?

A: We participate with Excellus BlueCross BlueShield, and we communicate with and accept payments from most other dental insurance plans. If you have a dental insurance plan, your co-payment is due at each appointment. See our Office and Financial Policies , or contact our business office to understand all of the options available.

Q: How can I finance my dental care if I don't have dental insurance, or if my insurance won't pay for treatment?

A: We offer financing through CareCredit. This option allows patients to spread the cost of dental care over time for services requiring multiple visits, based on your credit history. We also accept credit card payments. See Office and Financial Policies to learn more.
